Mexico is one of the best options for your LGBTQ+ destination wedding. But with stunning beach destinations scattered across the country, we’re taking out the guesswork and sharing our top favorite spots in Mexico.
Trying to choose the perfect location for your destination wedding as an LGBTQ+ couple can be a little confusing. You want to make sure the country you’re traveling to is inclusive, welcoming, and safe because let’s be honest – all you want to worry about on your wedding day is looking flawless and celebrating your love!
Mexico is one of the the most liberal countries in Latin America, so you don’t have to worry about feeling uncomfortable or judged on the best day of your life. I’ve helped hundreds of couples plan gorgeous destination weddings, and I can assure you that your destination wedding in Mexico will be everything you’ve dreamed of… and more.
If you choose to work with me as your destination wedding travel agent, I can assure you that I’ll help you prioritize supportive resorts that will celebrate your wedding day right alongside you. I hold a certification from the Gay Wedding Institute – part of the Equality Insittute – so I can best support all of my wedding couples.
And if you’re worried about random resort guests peeking in on your beachside ceremony, you’ll be impressed at how far destination wedding venues have come! Most all-inclusive resorts in Mexico now have more private options that include expansive, luxurious suites and sky terraces overlooking the water.
Mexico is a large country with a vibrant culture. There are different vibes across its beach cities and towns, so there’s somewhere just right for every couple.
This gorgeous stretch of beaches is home to some of my favorite all-inclusive resorts in Mexico. South of Cancun, it includes the hippy-beachy town of Tulum as well as the snorkelers-paradise, Akumal. If you want the ultimate beach vibe with tons of resorts to choose from, the Riviera Maya is for you.
This lovely beach town is on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, so it’s convenient for couples and guests traveling from the midwest and West Coasts.
Have you ever seen photos of tan couples on a catamaran cruising by a stunning stone arch over sparkling turquoise water? They were probably in Cabo! The natural arch is one of the most picturesque locations in this beach town located on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.
“Los Cabos” is actually two cities in one: the artsy laid-back San Jose del Cabo and nightlife hotspot Cabo San Lucas. Cabo is one of the most upscale destinations in Mexico, and airlines are answering this demand.
West Coasters? Cabo is a short easy flight away. Midwesterners? This is an easy-to-get-to spot. For those on the east, no fear. Delta, American, and now Eastern airlines all offer non-stops from the east coast to Cabo.
Mexico is overwhelmingly a great option for a supportive, welcoming environment. Latin America is pretty conservative as a whole, so I’m very careful about where I advise my LGBTQ+ clients to go.
If you are planning a destination wedding for an LGBTQ crowd, it’s very important to work with an expert. There are many destinations (in the Caribbean in particular) that are unfortunately less welcoming.
Even more good news: the list of destinations that welcome LGBT couples with open arms is growing! Costa Rica just passed marriage equality in 2020! If you’re imagining less beach and more jungle, this might be the perfect place for your destination wedding.
When you work with me to find your perfect wedding location (and let me manage alllllll the travel details), you can totally relax, knowing I’ve got your best interests at heart.
Equality has always been the centerpiece of my business and I look forward to working with you!
Want to work with a pro who understands and values your needs? I’ve got you.

My son and his partner are planning to have a destination wedding next year in the Cancun Riviera Maya area. Date they picked so far is December 10 with some wiggle room. Originally, we picked Grand Iberostar but found out that they will not allow children during the wedding with no exception, which I found to be unreasonable, since it is a wedding. My husband and I stayed there in the past, and knew there were other hotels in the area that are also iberostar but not adults only. So our thought was that families with kids can stay at the neighboring hotels and cone for the wedding and reception. Not sure if there was a language barrier that they did not understand that intent was just for guests with children to only come for the wedding and not stay at the hotel. Is it possible for you to verify?
Also, if they are inflexible, can you suggest other friendly venue in the area?
Thank you.
Hi! Your travel advisor (or however you booked) will be able to answer this for you. Adults only resorts are generally adults only. Zero exceptions (even for weddings). Sometimes situations can be negotiated when the group contract is signed, it truly depends on your travel advisors relationship with the resort.
