Every year, The Knot releases its wedding trends report, and every year Pinterest fills up with inspiration boards. The 2027 wedding trends are a lot of fun: Italian beach club style, weekend-long celebrations, interactive food moments and heirloom lace.
Here’s what stood out to us as destination wedding travel advisors: many of 2027’s biggest trends are trying to recreate the feeling of being somewhere else. And some of them are already built into a destination wedding.
So we took the trends that matter most and showed what each one looks like when you’re saying “I do” in Mexico or the Caribbean. (Spoiler: some are easier on a beach than in a ballroom.)

ToggleThe 2027 wedding trends that fit a destination wedding best are the ones about experience, not decor. Here’s the quick version:
All trend data comes from The Knot x WeddingPro 2027 Wedding Trends Report.

The Beach Club trend had the biggest jump in the 2027 report, with searches up 315% year over year. It’s inspired by the Italian Riviera: sun-washed color, spritz bars, cabana stripes, citrus and long, lazy sunsets.
Here’s the thing. Couples getting married at home are paying to make a ballroom feel like a seaside vacation. At a destination wedding, you’re already there. The ocean, the sunset and the golden hour light are all included.
You don’t need Italy to pull this off. Mexico and the Caribbean have their own take on beach club style, and you can easily borrow the Riviera look:

According to The Knot, 69% of couples say guest experience is the single most important part of their wedding. A destination wedding is guest experience by design, because your guests aren’t just attending one evening. They’re sharing a vacation with you.
The report also highlights “the plot arc,” which means planning a wedding weekend where each event tells part of your story. At a destination wedding, that usually looks like this:
We share more ideas in our post on planning the most memorable destination wedding weekend.
The custom wedding branding trend (up 100%) fits here too. A monogram or crest can start on your save-the-dates, show up on your welcome bags and finish on your farewell brunch menu. When the weekend has one visual thread, it feels like one story.
One thing we see all the time: the guest experience starts long before anyone lands. It starts with how easy it is to book, pay and get answers. That’s the part we handle, so your guests arrive relaxed and you never become the group travel agent.

The “stretching the wedding” trend is all about spreading your wedding across more than one moment, like a courthouse ceremony at home and a bigger celebration later. For destination couples, this is already the norm.
Almost every destination wedding we plan is a symbolic ceremony. Couples handle the legal paperwork at home, often with a small courthouse moment, and then celebrate with their people at the destination. It’s simpler than navigating a legal ceremony in another country, and it gives you two moments to celebrate instead of one.
The 2027 trend gives that courthouse moment its own spotlight. Here are some ways to make it feel special:
If you’ve been wondering whether a destination wedding is “legal,” this is the answer. You get married legally at home and celebrate at your destination. It’s one of the first things we walk through during a consultation.

2027 couples want venues with character, not a room that looks like the last wedding their guests attended. At a destination wedding, your setting already has personality.
Instead of a hotel ballroom, many Mexico and Caribbean resorts offer:
Choosing the right resort matters more than people expect. Every resort handles weddings a little differently, from which spaces you can book to how many events can happen at once. Matching you with the right fit is one of the most valuable things a destination wedding travel advisor does.

Searches for interactive food and drink moments are up 66% in 2027. At a destination wedding, the local flavors do the entertaining for you.
Think tequila or mezcal tastings, a fresh ceviche station, a rum bar or a guacamole cart during cocktail hour. These moments give guests something to gather around, and they taste like the place you chose.
The report also found that nearly 60% of couples want to bring their culture, religion or heritage into their wedding and menus. At a resort, reworking the full dinner menu around family recipes can be tricky. Here’s a simpler way to bring it to life:
It still tells your story, without asking the resort kitchen to reinvent its menu.

Wedding favors are becoming experiences in 2027, from bouquet bars to curated snack baskets. At a destination wedding, the welcome bag is already that experience.
A well-planned welcome bag greets guests at check-in and sets the tone for the whole trip. Popular ideas include:
One tip: keep favors light. Your guests have to fit everything in a suitcase to fly home.

The 2027 report says couples want honeymoons that feel like a secret, with more privacy and fewer crowds. And 72% of couples register for some kind of cash fund, mostly for the honeymoon.
For destination couples, the easiest way to do this is a split-stay honeymoon. You start at your wedding resort with your guests, then move to a smaller, more private property for a few days of just the two of you. No second round of flights to plan. We talk about this more in 7 tips to avoid destination wedding planning stress.
A honeymoon fund on your registry also makes a lot of sense for destination weddings, since guests shouldn’t be carrying wrapped gifts through the airport.

Most 2027 decor trends can work at a destination wedding, but the smart move is to take inspiration from the trend and let the resort bring it to life with local flowers. Local florals that don’t have to be imported are the most affordable choice, and they hold up better in the heat.
Here’s how the top 2027 decor trends translate:
Resort wedding teams are great at this. Bring them your colors, your fabrics or your Pinterest board, and they can apply that inspiration to flowers that are fresh, local and budget friendly.

According to The Knot x WeddingPro 2027 Wedding Trends Report, the biggest 2027 wedding trends include Italian Riviera “Beach Club” style (up 315%), antique lace (up 280%), art-inspired weddings, deep reds and powder blue, silver details, multi-day wedding celebrations and a focus on guest experience.
Yes. Many 2027 trends, like guest experience, beach club style, wedding weekends and private honeymoons, are already built into a destination wedding in Mexico or the Caribbean.
Most destination weddings are symbolic ceremonies. Couples complete the legal marriage at home, often with a small courthouse ceremony, then celebrate at their destination. This avoids the extra paperwork of a legal ceremony in another country.
Yes, and it’s one of the most popular ways to plan a destination wedding. Get legally married at home, then have your symbolic ceremony and celebration with family and friends at the destination.
Choose local flowers that don’t have to be imported. Share your colors and inspiration with the resort florist and let them recreate the look with blooms that grow locally.
Carry one visual thread through the whole weekend, like a monogram or color palette, and add small personal touches such as a family recipe card or hometown treat in your welcome bags.
Trends are fun, but the best part of your wedding is having your favorite people all in one place. That’s what a destination wedding does best.
