At Alpaca Your Bags Travel, we love how authentic Puerto Vallarta feels. This beautiful town is located on the west coast of Mexico, so you get lots of gorgeous sunsets without any yucky seaweed. And unlike Cabo, you can swim in the ocean here!
The beaches in Puerto Vallarta are a bit smaller than at other all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, but they’re easily the most dramatic – with gorgeous mountains in the background.
This is also a very LGBTQ-friendly destination, featuring Vallarta Pride, one of the world’s largest Pride celebrations each spring.
Fun fact: I have spent many of my major life milestones in Puerto Vallarta ... we’ve traveled here for birthdays, anniversaries & other celebrations.
I was actually in Puerto Vallarta during the weekend of March 13, 2020, aka the weekend the world changed forever!

All-Inclusive Family Vacations in Puerto Vallarta
There are plenty of family-friends all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta, and you can choose from budget accommodations to upscale, luxurious resorts. We love that the resorts tend to be smaller and offer some of the most stunning ocean views in all of Mexico.
If your kids are looking for adventure, there are ziplining and boating adventures available in Puerto Vallarta.
Where to Stay in Puerto Vallarta
Riviera Nayarit, which we commonly refer to as Puerto Vallarta, is actually made up of two separate towns (in two different states!): Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta.
Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta has a vibrant downtown and the famous 12-block, mile-long esplanade Malecon.
This spot is known for its fantastic restaurants and great nightlife. The beaches in Puerto Vallarta tend to be smaller and more cove-like, but you can swim in the water here.
Nuevo Vallarta
Nuevo Vallarta is a newer tourist area, so it doesn’t have the historical and vibrant downtown that Puerto Vallarta is known for. But here, the beaches are typically longer. It's a great place for those who like taking long beach walks or enjoying time in the sand.
Punta Mita
This private peninsula is at the far north end of Nuevo Vallarta. It’s the furthest all-inclusive resort destination from the airport, but it’s pristine beaches are worth the drive.

What to Do in Puerto Vallarta
Rhythms of the Night
Rhythms of the Night is one of the most popular tours in Puerto Vallarta. As night falls, the secluded cove of Las Caletas is transformed into a magical paradise to create the ultimate backdrop for this exclusive event.
This amazing voyage will transport you to a mystical and spiritual land that time forgot.
Food & Tequila Tasting
Puerto Vallarta is one of the biggest foodie destinations in Mexico. Jalisco is also the birthplace of tequila and a great place to do a tasting!
Consider pairing some tequila with a food tour or authentic cooking class for maximum fun. Tacos and tequila? Yes, please!
Go Ziplining & Other Adventures
The Sierra Madre mountain range is home to adventures of all kind! Try a thrilling zipline experience through the mountain tops, rappel down waterfalls, ride a mule up the mountain, or cross swinging jungle bridges.
There’s an adventure for everyone!
Sail to Yelapa
Hop onboard a catamaran and set sail for an escape you’ll always remember. Your tranquil day trip to the village of Yelapa includes beautiful waterfalls and the beautiful waters of Majahuitas Cove.
The emerald water and pristine golden sand beaches of the remote coves of Yelapa are the perfect destination for snorkeling, swimming, and kayaking. You’ll love exploring the secret hideaways of Banderas Bay.
